Online English Support for Learners Experiencing EBSA

EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance) is anxiety-driven, not defiance-driven.

We support young people who:

  • Experience panic before school

  • Refuse to attend due to overwhelming anxiety

  • Shutdown when faced with writing tasks

  • Have attendance below 50%

  • Are awaiting placement or accessing EOTAS

English is often the subject where anxiety is most visible.

Why English Triggers Avoidance

  • Timed writing feels threatening

  • Fear of “getting it wrong” leads to paralysis

  • Previous negative feedback damages confidence

  • Exam pressure intensifies avoidance

Our Reduced-Anxiety Environment

We provide:

  • Safe, calm online sessions

  • Gradual re-engagement with writing

  • Flexible timetabling

  • Low-arousal communication

  • Achievement without overwhelm

We rebuild academic confidence alongside literacy skills.

Suitable For:

  • EHCP-funded Section F provision

  • EOTAS packages

  • Interim provision

  • Reintegration programmes

  • GCSE catch-up

Reporting & Outcomes

We provide:

  • Clear baseline assessments

  • Measurable literacy progress data

  • Half-termly reporting

  • Evidence suitable for annual reviews

For some learners, we are a stepping stone back into education.
For others, we provide stable, longer-term English provision.
